Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes one half of your otp dies instead.
Freaking Inori.
So I finished watching episode 22 of Guilty Crown and… I’m disappointed. So disappointed. I understand, they were trying the “Oh Inori sacrificed herself for Shu” angle. Bullshit. Her death was incredibly meaningless. She was all like “Oh take it” and Shu being the derp he is… ugh. UGH. Yeah, she confessed in the end, but Inori is the one that technically saved Shu.
But that whole act made their relationship so meaningless. The whole point was that they were willing to die for each other, willing to risk anything and everything to see each other. To have Inori die like that and leave Shu alive, alone, blinded to the world around him and with only memories of a woman he loved… that’s not only a cruel and unusual punishment, it’s downright tragic.
Maybe I’m reading too much into this. Maybe I’m not appreciating the tragedy that is Shu and Inori. But they get back together at the very end, and immediately Inori goes and dies in his arms. I mean, come on, if you’re going to kill her off, at least make her death a beautiful sacrifice. Not meaningless. Not like that.
Oh, and wow was the ending rushed. They pulled a whole “oh I’m Lelouch and I’m going to bear the sins of the world so you can kill me now” thing with Gai in… what, 5 minutes? It was all so forced. And Mana is pretty unrealistic in her creepiness. Ugh, it was so awkward to watch her.
So there we have it: a rushed ending, a forced explanation of Gai’s motivations, a lame final battle, an overly creepy sister, and a meaningless sacrifice. Such a meaningless death. Either they both die, or they both live on. Having Shu alive and wallowing in his memories whitewashes any meaning Inori’s death had.
It should not have been 22 episodes. They could have went to 24 or 25 and actually done a decent job of wrapping up. Maybe they’ll actually fix it like what NGE did. Eh, I doubt it. Either way, thank you. Thank you for taking a show with a perfectly good plot premise, amazing music, and beautiful art direction and turning it into this.
To me, the last 10 minutes of the last episode never happened. They are both dead to me. And that’s how it should have ended.

P.S.: Is it just me, or does Lost Christmas and the rest of the plot premise remind anyone else of The 3rd Birthday? Hmmm….
I love you, I trust you.
Either in light or in darkness.
Because it’s you and me, we can believe in each other.
Please don’t let go.

This song is legit their theme song. After that episode, there simply wasn’t any other way to look at the ending song.
